Many citizens through many outlets have shown interest in how operations at Wakulla Animal Services is conducted. Recently many citizens gathered with media and at least one commissioner to devise a plan to help our shelter and better the conditions. Shortly after the public interest began, the long time Animal Services Director resigned from her position.

The below screenshots are from a public records request received by a citizen. The records were not specifically requested for this purpose but, the recipient felt this email chain is relevant to provide you with internal communication related to the resignation and subsequent actions. There were many publicly communicated questions surrounding how the termination of the Animal Services Director occurred. We hope that this distribution of public records will help with your questions.

On October 24, 2024 at 10:31 A.M. the Animal Services Director sent her resignation to the Assistant County Administrator. The ACA sent a response to the Director thanking her for her service and welcoming her cooperation in the transition at 10:39 A.M. the same day.

A few minutes later (10:44 AM) the Assistant County Administrator forwarded the Director's resignation to interested parties, copying the County Administrator.

Several minutes after that, the Employee Support Services Director inquired as to how the Assistant County Administrator would like to proceed with filling the position.

No other communication was found in emails obtained by a public records request in between the time of the communication above and the communication below. This is not to say that verbal or other communication did or did not occur. The requestor/recipient of the records would have no way of knowing what, if any, communication occurred outside of email.

The following communication was sent by the ACA the next morning to the BOCC with a Cc to the County Administrator and the Fire Chief.

Nearly 24 hours passed before the Assistant County Administrator sent the Animal Services Director's resignation to the County Administrator and other interested parties. While it is unknown what offline conversations transpired during that time, Wakulla Reports finds it curious that the dialogue morphed from a seemingly thankful working transition to an abrupt dissolution of employment.

Wakulla Reports has no opinion as to what may or may not have happened. This has been distributed simply for your own decision making.
